Celebrating One Year at our Kensington Restaurant
Posted on 17th February 2017
We can hardly believe it: it’s been nearly a year since the official opening of our boutique restaurant in Kensington. Our first twelve months have been a great success, thanks to the dedication of our staff and the support of our customers. As we celebrate this milestone, we take a look back at our journey over the past few years…
We first opened the doors to our Notting Hill restaurant in 2011, and swiftly built up an army of fans. In this glamorous part of London, we brushed shoulders with celebrity clientele, including David Beckham, Gary Lineker, Alan Carr, Angie and Calum Best, and Duncan Bannatyne. Over the next few years, Chakra became the go-to place for high-end Indian cuisine in Notting Hill, and it didn’t go unnoticed: we won a clutch of awards, including Best Restaurant at the prestigious Asian Business Awards in 2014.
However, in spring 2016, we left our well-loved restaurant and moved to Holland Street in leafy Kensington. Our new premises might just be a ten-minute walk down the road, but the move signified a shift in tone for Chakra. The new restaurant is smaller and more intimate, and we chose a sparing, minimalist theme for its decoration. It’s a far cry from the luxurious interiors of our Notting Hill premises, where we wanted our guests to feel as though they were at a sumptuous Indian banquet. We wanted our new restaurant to be a blank canvas where our food can truly stand out.
Changing premises and tone was a bold move – but it paid off. We continued to serve the beautiful Indian cuisine we’d become famous for in Notting Hill, updating our presentation and recipes to create something truly modern and innovative. The customers flooded in, and so did the five-star reviews. Chakra on Holland Street was hailed as “the best Indian in town” and “Michelin level Indian food” by delighted guests. We also received critical acclaim from food critics and media outlets, with Squaremeal describing our new premises as “the ideal setting for some rather sophisticated Indian cooking that takes its cue from the subcontinent’s royal kitchens”.
As spring blossomed into summer, we launched a new summer menu and improved our outdoor dining area. Tourists and locals flocked to sip exotic cocktails in the cool terrace, as we built up a reputation for extraordinary Pan Asian dishes to suit all palettes and dietary requirements. By the time we launched our autumn menu, which featured local produce and game meats, Chakra on Holland Street had become one of the best-regarded Indian restaurants in Kensington. After enjoying our first Christmas and Valentine’s Day in Kensington, we’re ready for another year of enchanting our guests.
Our first year at our Kensington restaurant has been wonderful, and it’s all thanks to everyone who has visited us. We would not be here without your continued support. As we look ahead to our next year of business, we have an awful lot in store – and we can’t wait to share it with you. Make sure you follow us on Facebook and Twitter to be the first to hear about our news!
