British Food Fortnight: Celebrating Our Suppliers
Posted on 20th September 2017
Join us as we celebrate the 15th annual British Food Fortnight, the nation’s biggest annual event to come together and showcase the best of British food and drink. Great British food is exciting and diverse, a melting pot of flavours and ideas. Curry is now a national dish, as popular as fish and chips, and Asian flavours are a huge influence on contemporary cooking. At Chakra, we make authentic Indian food with a modern twist – using as much local, seasonal, British produce as we can in our dishes. Our Indian recipes are made with British ingredients.
British Food at Chakra
- Fresh fruits and vegetables are all from British farms, we work with local suppliers to get the best of each season’s harvest. Our Vegetable Biryani is made with seasonal vegetables, currently being cooked with fresh English peas, cauliflower, onions and potatoes.
- Our meat comes from the award winning Bevan’s Butchers in West London, a family company, now run by the 4th generation of Bevans! They supply us with the most delicious duck, partridge and fowl.
- Cream, butter and the paneer cheese in our Ghar Da Matar all come from the fantastic FoodSpeed Dairy Merchants who work with dairy farmers around the country to sell only the best free range, sustainable and British products.
The Best of London
To get a true taste of London, and to see why the city is famous for its amazing food scene, visit one of the dozens of food markets. Farmers markets, street food fairs, artisan pop-ups – we’re lucky to be surrounded by some of the most exciting cooking going on in the world. Our nearby farmers market, tucked behind the Notting Hill Waterstones, is the place to go on a Saturday morning for the freshest fruit and veg and absolutely delicious pies. And the South Kensington markets on Tuesday mornings are a must, especially when the delightful Mumbai Mix are there! Of course, the big markets are the most famous – Borough market has over 100 stalls selling gourmet food of all description and is renowned for its incredible selection of British food. Leadenhall Market has been around for over 600 years and while it’s appearance in the Harry Potter films has increased the numbers of tourists visiting, it’s still a great place to find fresh, local produce and food stalls.
